Deserted Island

a sad poem

they say
“no man is an island”
I am no man
but a deserted island all the same

they say
“nature abhors a vacuum”
but I keep hemorrhaging
people, places, things
with no end in sight

from the floaty, soft cloud veil
of my dreams
to the cold hard
concrete of reality

awakened to the cold
the pain fresh once more
bleakness surrounds me

disillusioned
lost
alone

how much can one person lose
before they’re empty?
